General Music Video Deconstructions

General Video Deconstructions:

Summary:

These first videos we looked at, at the start of the year helped us to understand some of the main conventions of music videos in general. All of these videos had good features which could be used to help with our own production. Points for example the use of editing and effects to include a wider target audience. Also the use of transitions to help add variety to the video and make it engaging. Andy noticed the used of exaggerated stereotypes as well as intertexual references. Also the use of things like multiple layering and projection was used effectively in the video for 'Under the Bridge'.

All of these videos helped us grasp an understanding of performance and narrative footage as well as concept in a music video. It was also important to look at the editing styles and whether it was in continuity or not. The use of colour correction and things like slow-mo and time reversal stood out to me in some of the videos and the changes in editing pace which come with different parts of the song. The use of mis-en-scene is also important in order to maintain verisimilitude and keep the video interesting. The use of effects in the video  'once in a life time' also shows how video production has changed over the years and the improvements in technology. It is also apparent the different editing styles used show genres. We can see this due to the variety of different genres on show in our blogs.
